Community Cinema : The Choral

Community Cinema : The Choral

Description

As war rages on the Western Front in 1916, the choral society in Ramsden, Yorkshire has lost most of its men to the army. The society's ambitious committee, determined to press ahead, decides to recruit local young males to swell their ranks. They must also engage a new chorus master, and despite their suspicions that he has something to hide, their best bet seems to be Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) - driven, uncompromising, and recently returned from a career in Germany.  As conscription papers start to arrive, the whole community discovers that the best response to the chaos that is laying waste to their lives is to make music together.

Starring Ralph Fiennes, Roger Allam, Mark Addy, Alun Armstrong, Robert Emms and Simon Russell Beale.

Audience reviews:

"It was wonderful on so many levels. A beautiful, transcendent film."

"A touching story, well told with many endearing characters, beautiful music and good amounts of humour."

"Excellent film - well acted, fun, interesting. Why oh why didn't this film command more attention? (No car crashes, violence, gratuitous sex or A-I generated special effects). A good "old-fashioned" British delight. Grab a bit of treacle and enjoy."

"An absolutely brilliant film. A tribute to the strength of the human spirit...."
